How to choose the right size

Underwear is one of the most important parts of clothing we wear, even though it's not visible. It can boost mood and confidence, ensuring a feeling of comfort and ease. To make this piece of clothing flattering and comfortable, it's important not to underestimate its selection. The key to success is determining the right fit and material, but now let's look at how to measure correctly, as this is the absolute foundation when choosing underwear.

For accurate measurement, you'll need:

  • Tailor's tape
  • Mirror
  • Fitted clothing/underwear that doesn't compress or shape the body

Chest circumference

This measurement is taken at the widest part of the chest - usually measured under the armpits for men and over the nipples for women. When taking the measurement, stand straight and relaxed, and hold the tape horizontally. It's best to check this in a mirror or ask someone else for help. For women, this measurement, along with the underbust measurement, helps in choosing the right bra.

Waist circumference

This circumference is measured at the narrowest part of the body. It's usually located just above the belly button. Women generally have a clearer defined waist than men, which is an advantage. Another guideline is that the waist is roughly halfway between the top edge of the hip bone and the bottom rib. Measure the waist during a calm exhale without sucking in the stomach.
Tip for you: Measured sizes may vary at different parts of the cycle, for example, due to water retention during premenstrual syndrome. Therefore, it is ideal to take measurements in the first half of the cycle.

Hip circumference

Run the tailor's tape over the widest part of the hips and buttocks. Again, be careful not to hold the tape at an angle. Keep your legs together and stand straight with weight evenly distributed on both feet. The tape should fit snugly against the body but should not constrict. To ensure accuracy, measure twice to confirm the measurements are correct.

Height

When measuring your height, you'll definitely appreciate the help of another person. Measure without shoes, standing naturally straight against the wall, with feet slightly apart (10 to 15 cm) and head held upright. Make a mark at the top of your head, and then measure the distance from the floor to the mark using a tailor's tape or any other measuring tool you have available.

Foot length

Even now, it's beneficial to have someone assist you during measurement - take a clean sheet of paper, place it on the floor with the shorter side directly against the wall, and stand on it so that your heel touches the wall. Then make a mark in front of your big toe. It's important for the foot to be evenly weighted. This is best achieved while standing and having the marking done by another person.
